Greek tragedian. He is often described as the father of tragedy. Academics' knowledge of the genre begins with his work, and understanding of earlier tragedies is largely based on inferences from his surviving plays.
I gave them hope, and so turned away their eyes from death
From a small seed a mighty trunk may grow.
Death is softer by far than tyranny
Call no man happy till he is dead
In every enterprise is no greater evil than bad companionship.
There is no sickness worse for me that words that to be kind must lie.
Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible. And be kinder than is necessary
The best revenge is to be unlike him who performed the injury.
When your soul is bored you must work.
Never, never, never give up
Appear as you may wish to be
There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship
